Why choose WorldSong for summer camp?

Missions Camps at WorldSong are a wonderful place where children and youth girls can leave the hurried pace of everyday life, experience new things, make friends and connect with God in a new way. In particular, the all-girls camps allow the staff to focus on the specific spiritual, physical and emotional needs of girls. During those camps, staff can concentrate on the interests of girls without the distractions of daily life.

Why send my child to a camp where chaperones from our church do not come?

One of the unique aspects of WorldSong Summer Missions Camps is that campers are cared for by a godly college student as head cabin leader, and a godly high school student as assistant cabin leader. Because the cabin leaders are their primary care-taker, the relationships between camper and Cabin Leader grow strong. Campers have a wonderful Christian example who lives out a life with Christ right in front of them. Often these relationships last a lifetime. WorldSong has a wonderful history in caring for our campers.

How are the cabin leaders chosen?

Applications are received in the winter and spring. Each applicant undergoes a criminal background check. Four references are received on each applicant including one from her pastor. Applicants spend a weekend at WorldSong where they are interviewed by the camp director and have time to interact with other staff. Having applicants at WorldSong for more than just an interview gives much insight into how they will work with children in the setting of summer camp.

What training does the camp staff receive?

Camp staffers are trained in many areas of both safety and programming prior to the beginning of camps including:

  • First aid / OSHA training
  • CPR
  • Risk management
  • Dealing with different types and ages of children
  • How to spiritually counsel children and lead them to Christ
  • Camp procedures
  • Expectations for a cabin leader

What will my child do at camp?

Can I call or write to my child at camp?

Campers are not allowed to bring cell phones or call home during the week. We want your camper’s experience to be the best one possible. It is our experience that phone calls home are a distraction to the program and to their focus on God. If you are worried about your child for a particular reason, please give us a call, and the staff will be happy to check on your camper for you. Please write to your camper. They receive mail every day after lunch. Also, send some self addressed, stamped envelopes and paper for your camper to write you during the week as well. This year, WorldSong is starting something new called bunk1 email. This is an opportunity for you to send a one-way email to your camper.

What if my child gets homesick?

Homesickness is not uncommon at camp. Most homesickness occurs at night just before bedtime. The WorldSong staff will deal with homesickness in a loving and gentle manner. If the homesickness is repetitive and is excessive, a parent will be contacted to discuss options. We realize that homesickness can be a very sensitive issue. If you have further questions about procedures of dealing with homesickness, please contact WorldSong by email or at 877.878.1736.
